Born in Csíkszereda, Transylvania, Árpád Kató’s musical journey began with the violin at the local music school. He later turned to the classical guitar, continuing his studies at the Nagy István Arts High School, and then at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca.
Throughout his formative years, he took part in numerous national and international festivals and masterclasses, where he had the opportunity to study with distinguished artists such as Alirio Díaz, Gianfranco Volpato, Costas Cotsiolis, Roland Dyens, Waldemar Gromolak, Vladislav Bláha and many others.

Chamber music has remained an important part of his artistic work, and today he is a member of arTpeggio Duo, with which he has also received first prize in the teacher category of a national chamber music competition.
Alongside performing, teaching has become an equally important part of his musical life. His work has ranged from classical guitar to solfège, harmony, counterpoint and chamber music. Over the years he has taught at the Nagy István Arts High School in Csíkszereda, the Móra Ferenc Primary and Music School in Hajdúdorog, and the Weiner Leó Conservatory of Music in Budapest, where his responsibilities have also included departmental leadership in chordal instruments and chamber music.

He has also been invited to serve on juries at numerous national and international music competitions. Many of his students have continued their musical studies at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest and the Bartók Béla Faculty of Arts at the University of Szeged, as well as at other institutions of higher music education.
